Corthell Transportation is a family owned and operated long-haul trucking company specializing in Heavy Haul and Over-dimensional freight requiring stretch equipment.

Oversize and Overweight and longer stretch freight is Corthell’s main focus. Each driver is skilled in this specialized type of freight movement and all of units are set up to haul various sized loads weighing from legal weight to over 100,000+ lbs. Corthell trailers range from 15’ to 55’ long and beyond to accommodate their customers unique needs.

Corthell Transportation also supports legal freight/small oversize loads that require a smaller set up. They offer low profile step decks that better accommodate height than standard step decks. Additionally, the company offers hard to come by long haul winch trucks which can handle freight required to be loaded by the driver and hauled short or long distances.

Position Purpose

Corthell Transportation is looking for an experienced permit technician to join their company.  This position will be a crucial member of the permit team and will work on complex transportation projects preparing permits and seeing the project through to successful completion.

Permit work is much like a puzzle, gathering and sorting the pieces to make them all fit together on each load for efficient and safe delivery.

This position will report to Crystal Corthell the lead Permit Technician. She has over 7 years of experience with Heavy Haul trucking. 

Duties and Responsibilities

The person that will fill this position will be a motivated self-starter that can effectively manage their time and maintain remote communication via phone, email, internal messaging application.  A successful Permit Technician will be passionate about going above and beyond to get

The job responsibilities of this role are highly time sensitive; the ideal candidate will have excellent computer skills and the ability to manage multiple competing priorities throughout the day.

This Permit Technician will also be responsible for answering company calls during on-call hours to ensure business needs are addressed.

Permitting Responsibilities:

  • Permitting Prep for super-loads.

  • Route planning and difficult load permitting

  • Communication with dispatcher regarding anticipation of permit and needs

  • Receiving dimensions

  • Ordering, receiving and reviewing for accuracy all permits for company trucks

  • Data entry and cost tracking

  • Consistent communication with dispatcher & accounting teams as well as drivers

Pilot Cars

  • Booking and tracking of pilot cars

Qualifications

Required:

  • 1-2 years oversize overweight permitting experience

  • 2-5 years Administrative Experience (1-2 years Administrative Experience with a trucking company or permit service.)

  • Working knowledge of industry practices and regulations including state specific requirements (focus on west coast and mid-western states)

  • Strong, effective written and verbal communication with the ability to interact well with others

  • Able to work remotely via computer, phone, email and messaging app.

 

Preferred:

  • Ability to read and understand maps and routing.

  • Robust understanding of various truck and trailer configurations

  • Adaptable to a fact-paced environment

  • Experience with booking and using pilot cars

  • Problem solving skills
